Seeking Serene Water and Colorful Sunsets in your Maternity Photography? Try Golden Ponds

A couple at their maternity photography session at Golden Ponds in Longmont

Golden Ponds in Longmont is a surprisingly beautiful location for maternity photography.  You wouldn’t expect a location just off of Hover and just beyond a Target to be this gorgeous.  But it is.  Right in the heart of Longmont, this location is a popular photography spot for a reason.  It has gorgeous views and a wide variety of photo locations.  It has water!  Water is hard to come up in the high desert.  To make it even more special, it also has mountains.  With a wide variety of backdrops, coupled with easy accessibility, it is no surprise why Golden Ponds is one of my most popular maternity photography locations.

Why Golden Ponds Shines for Maternity Photography

Water

Between the ponds and the St. Vrain Creek, it is a serene water mecca.  You can have flowing water, a waterfall, and large ponds with the backdrop of Long’s Peak.

Mountain Views and Sunsets

The sunsets can also be amazing there.  At a session I shot in late July last year, the sunset rivaled the best of Colorado sunsets.  With hues of orange, pink, and red, it filled the sky and the pond waters before us.  To make it even more breathtaking, all of this was happening with Long’s Peak in the distance.  It is rare to find a location that pairs water and mountains.

Easy Accessibility

This location is also really easy to navigate.  Not an attribute you find much among my favorite locations.  Wilderness and accessibility rarely go hand in hand.  But this entire area has paved walkways.  And very little off roading is needed to get to beautiful photography spots that make you feel like you just reentered the backcountry.

Why Golden Ponds Might Be for You

I’d recommend Golden Ponds if want any or all of the following:

  • A combination of water and mountains

  • Easy Accessibility is important

  • Can’t go to altitude

Quick Location Facts

  • Easy access to portrait locations

  • No permit or entry fee needed

  • Bathrooms available for clothing changes

  • One hour from Denver, 30 minutes from Boulder, 5 minutes from downtown Longmont, one hour from Greeley, one hour from Fort Collins

  • Can be photographed close to sunset, unless it’s fall. If it’s fall, we’ll want to get there early to get first dibs on locations.
