Wishing for Astonishing Mountains in your Denver Maternity Photoshoot?

Mom-to-be looking out at the mountains during her Denver maternity photoshoot

When you turn the corner of this maternity photoshoot location near Denver, your breath will be taken away.  I couldn’t, and still can’t believe, this location isn’t popular among other photographers.  It did take a bit of time to find it and when I did, I knew it was a location for the history books.  It’s drop dead gorgeous.

This location is not nearly as far into the mountains as you might think.  In fact, I would consider it in the foothills.  But it has mountain views that put locations in the mountains to shame.  It looks out onto the continental divide.  Within just a 100 feet of each other are two spots I like to photograph.  One shows a sweeping vista of mountains.  The other puts you right among the peaks.  I keep searching, but I can’t find another location that matches this one in mountain vistas.

Where the Rocky Mountains Meet the Colorado Sky

The first time I photographed at this location, it was September.  The pine trees were as green as can be and the grassy fields were golden in all their glory.  It was cloudy, but this location was still a stunner.  In fact, the stormy clouds on the horizon gave the mountains a drama I hadn’t seen at this location before.

My next session there was in the middle of a wind storm in November.  Not going to lie, it was cold.  But, man, were the images breathtaking with the billowing wind.  Drama seems to always characterize this location.

Finally that winter, I got to shoot the location for the first time in the snow.  Although more difficult to traverse, the snow capped peaks were epic and the snowy pine tree forest felt like it was out of a fairy tale.

Why This Denver Area Location Shines for Maternity Photoshoots

Variety

This location is on the side of a peak.  Which means that you get the best of both worlds.  We start out in a forested area where we can capture images of you among the pine trees.  Then we make our way to the other side of the peak and capture you with the setting sun and the Rocky Mountains behind.  Capture this location at the right time, you can get snow capped peaks or a beautiful grassy field.  The variety of this location is unmatched.

Mountain Vistas

I know I’ve already reviewed this before.  But this location is unmatched.  I’ve shot throughout the mountains and I haven’t found a location yet that matches these vistas.  It is quite the hidden gem.

Why This Denver Location Might be For You

You want mountain vistas.  That is the plain and simple answer.  If you want the backdrop of the continental divide, this location needs to be a major consideration for your maternity session.

This location is not for you, if you are having difficulty moving during your pregnancy.  To reach the mountain vistas, we do have to hike for 15 minutes.  The hike isn’t bad.  There is only one short stretch where we’re actually going uphill.  But I would only recommend this for pregnant moms who feel like they are in good shape and are comfortable moving at the end of their pregnancy.

Quick Location Facts:

  • This location has a low accessibility rating. You do have to be able to move quite a bit in order to get to the amazing vistas. This is especially true in the winter, where we might have to navigate snow packed trails.

  • No permit or entry fee needed

  • A port-o-potty is available. I have a changing tent for changes on location.

  • 45 minutes from Denver, 15 minutes from Boulder, 35 minutes from downtown Longmont, one hour 20 minutes from Greeley, one hour 15 minutes from Fort Collins

  • This location does require that we start 30 minutes before a normal session time due to the proximity to the mountains and the extra walking.
