Capturing Baby’s First Year

Newborn Session
Your baby will be a newborn for the first two months of their lives. Newborn session options with Sara Herkes Photo are as varied as maternity options. We can do in-home newborn sessions or newborn sessions outdoors. For newborn sessions outdoors, you have the option of petite or deluxe. Capture this special and fleeting time with a newborn session by booking your newborn session either before baby is born or after.

Three Month Milestone Session
At 3-4 months old, babies start to smile and start to hold their heads up. It can be a great time to start seeing their personality form. Milestone sessions around this time are great for capturing those last fleeting months before you have a baby that won’t stop moving. We can do deluxe, petite, or mini milestone sessions for this special chapter.

Six Month Milestone Session
At 6-7 months, babies start to sit up and may even start to crawl. Babies at this stage are exuding their personality, smiling, interacting, and playing with toys with ease. This is the most popular mid-year milestone session, because it is halfway between the two big milestones, birth and the first birthday. This milestone can be captured in a deluxe, petite, or mini session.

Nine Month Milestone Session
9-10 months are when things start to get really interesting. Your baby is quite the mover at this time. They might be veteran crawlers or rollers. They might even be taking their first steps assisted or unassisted. You definitely know by this point if your kiddo will be chill or spirited. This milestone can be captured as a deluxe, petite, or mini.

First Birthday Milestone
You made it! The first birthday should be a celebration for your little one making it and you as parents for making it. It’s a big milestone. For this session, we can do a family session, a session focused on just kiddo, or a cake smash. I personally love outdoor cake smashes. Deluxe, Petite, and Mini sessions are all available for this milestone as well.

Speciality Sessions
Periodically throughout the year, I offer special sessions. These could be mommy and me sessions, breastfeeding sessions, or minis in the mountains. Make sure to keep an eye out for these to capture all aspects of your family’s story.
Baby’s First Year Experience
Did you invest in both a maternity and newborn session?
If so, you are eligible for the Baby’s First Year Experience.
After completing your maternity and newborn sessions, you are eligible to receive two more sessions during your baby’s first year with no additional sitting fees. These sessions can be deluxe, petite, or mini.
FYI, the most popular way to capture a baby’s first year is with a six month and a one year milestone.

Family Photography After the First Year
Each family approaches photography in different ways that suit their different wants and needs. I am always here for support and guidance. To start the brainstorming process, below are some common ways families capture their growing and changing family throughout the years after that first year (and sometimes starting in the first year):

By far the most common way to capture your family and how it grows and changes is through an annual family portrait. And the most common time of year to get that family portrait done is in the fall. This is the most popular, because freshly taken images can be great for holiday cards and gifts.

Families, especially with one child, will often capture their family on their child’s birthday. It keeps the pattern going from the baby’s first year.
What I offer: Mini sessions for families. These 30 minute sessions are more than enough to get images for capturing the yearly milestone, even if there is a toddler tantrum or two.
