Birth Doula, Stephanie Domingue

I’m devoting this week’s blog post to a fellow entrepreneur and mom in our community, Stephanie Domingue of Rocky Mountain Mother. She is a full spectrum doula who focuses on holistic care during the birthing process and postpartum. In case you’re not familiar, a doula is a type of birth worker. As defined by DONA International on their website, a doula is:

a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

Stephanie’s Approach to Being a Doula

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to discuss birth work and the doula profession with Stephanie. I loved her approach to birth as a holistic experience and her avoidance of fear based practices. Things sometimes do go wrong, or at least differently than planned, during childbirth and having a birth coach that understands that and acknowledges without judgment is so valuable. And having someone who is able to help a mom and family deal with all possible outcomes of this process is priceless.

It was because of her experience with one of those possible outcomes, loss, that Stephanie became interested in birth work. The need for a caregiver in our community, who nurtures new mothers holistically anywhere along their pregnancy and birth journey, was evident. Stephanie’s unique approach to supporting the journey into motherhood focuses on gentle and loving care, evidence based practices, and ceremonial integration.

Stephanie’s Birth Doula Services

Stephanie started her path in birth work by becoming a mother roaster. Mother roasting focuses on warming the mother after birth through specific postpartum care rooted in traditions from all around the world, including traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda. It is all about supporting the transition from maiden to mother in a holistic way.

Stephanie has since added on postpartum doula and sibling support, mother blessings, and birth doula support services. She focuses on advocating for women and helping them to make evidence based decisions during their birthing process. She supports women regardless of birth plan or planned birthing location. And because many of her services can be done years after the birthing journey to help moms to heal, Stephanie is a great resource for so many moms regardless of how long ago they started their motherhood journey. Stephanie even works with women and mothers moving though peri-menopause.
