Maternity FAQs

Booking Your Maternity Session

  • The first step is to reach out via my contact page. I’ll see if I’m available and send you more information to review. If you’re interested in moving forward, we’ll have a virtual chat so that I can answer any questions you may have and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

  • The first step is reaching out. You can do so here. If you like what you learn, then we have a virtual chat to get to know each other a bit more and see if we’re the right fit for each other.

When you’ve booked, we’ll schedule a design meeting that occurs about a month before your session. During that meeting, we’ll figure out the location for your session, what you and everyone in your party will wear, and how to prepare for your session.

The next time we meet will be at your session, where we’ll have fun and get great images.

A couple weeks after your session, I’ll send you a slideshow of all the resulting images from your session. At that point you’ll decide what digital image collection you’d like to invest in. Then you’ll gain access to your online gallery and have time to download image files and purchase print products, if you choose to do so.

You can get more information about my process on the maternity experience page.

  • Ideally we would photograph it between 32 - 36 weeks into your pregnancy.  That can change depending on circumstances though.  You can find more information on my blog post that discusses when to take maternity photos. And we will discuss specific timing for your session during our virtual chat.

  • I recommend booking as soon as possible, as the earlier you book the more availability I’ll have.  At minimum, I recommend booking no less than a month and half before your session to allow for design time. You can find more information on my blog post that discusses when to take your maternity photos.

  • You can find starting prices for my sessions here. You’ll receive a full, detailed pricing list before our virtual chat. And I am happy to answer any further questions you may have during our virtual chat.

  • Yes. All clients choose a digital image file collection, which includes high-resolution digital image files with a personal print release. You decide which collection you’d like after you see the images from your session.

  • Yes. I work with only professional level printers and offer a series of fine art prints, albums, and announcement cards.

These are available for purchase after you have purchased a digital image file collection.

  • I do offer a discount for booking multiple sessions at the same time. I don’t offer extremely regimented baby plans though, because I find that most of my clients want something slightly different and I’m always happy to do what is best for your family. You can learn more about my newborn sessions here.

About Your Maternity Session

  • One of my gowns, of course!. I have a collection of maternity gowns earmarked for your use at no additional charge. We also have a design meeting to discuss the rest of the family’s outfits as well. You can find more outfit and clothes suggestions on my posts: “How Can I Look Amazing for My Maternity Photos? The Photographer's Client Closet” and “7 Simple Ways to Choose A Fabulous Maternity Photoshoot Dress.”

  • Of course! Anyone that you’d like to be included in your maternity session can participate.

  • Yes! That is an absolutely, yes! I love it when we have fur babies participate. Two things to keep in mind though. First is that we will be more limited on locations with fur babies. Second, it is best to bring a friend along to help with the fur baby in between photos and when they aren’t in them.

  • That is the exact reason we have a design meeting a month before your session. During that meeting we will discuss what you and the rest in your party will wear to the session, what to bring to the session, and anything else you may need to know in order to prepare for your session.

  • Included in my deluxe session fee is a radius of 60 miles from my base in Frederick, CO. That includes Rocky Mountain National Park, all of Denver, Boulder, Broomfield, and Weld counties, most of Adams, Jefferson, and Arapahoe counties.

If you’d like a session outside of that radius, bring it up during your virtual chat and I’ll see if I can accommodate it.

  • I specialize in outdoor maternity sessions. Although I do other indoor sessions, such as newborn, I don’t do indoor maternity sessions. My inspiration really lies with outdoor when it comes to maternity.

Legalities, Permits, and Equipment

  • Not all locations require permits. In fact, most of the locations I work at do not require them. If you do choose a location with a permit though, I take care of getting the permit for that location.

My studio covers permit fees for Rocky Mountain National Park, Larimer County, Jefferson County, and Boulder City. Most locations in Boulder County and Weld County do not require permits.

If you choose a location where the fees is not taken care of by my studio, I’ll take payment for the permit fee when you’ve settled on a location (usually during the design meeting) and I will take care of obtaining the permit.

  • Yes, I have liability insurance that is industry standard.  Yes, I am fully licensed.  I carry a Colorado business license and am in good standing with the state.  I also carry a business license for each city/county in which I operate in and requires one.  I am also licensed to collect sales tax.  I take being in business and taking your photographs seriously. I would do nothing to jeopardize those things.

  • Yes, I photograph with full frame, professional level, Nikon photography equipment.  I edit all photos using professional level Adobe software.
